Recipe from “Lawyerly Libations” by Michael J. McCormick who writes, “I am a fan of using the tag team of simple syrup and Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur to sweeten an Old Fashioned, but muddled sugar cubes are considered to be more authentic. We are, after all, being old fashioned. Note that the sugar cube may note completely dissolve, but some people enjoy the added character. I say drink whichever version you like better.”

- 3)
Place a large ice cube in an old fashioned glass and garnish with a Luxardo Cocktail Cherry (or three).
- 4)
Express the oils from the exterior of an orange peel into the glass and rub the peel around the rim before placing in the glass.
- 5)
Strain the contents of the stirring glass into the old fashioned glass and serve “on the rocks.”
Notes
Regarding the orange peel, the author writes, “Some people prefer to use an orange peel with Bourbon and a lemon peel with rye whiskey. Litigators could spend hours debating the wisdom of each of those alternatives, but a clever transactional attorney or mediator would point out what is really important–everyone can agree a lime peel would be downright inappropriate.”
