Country Apple Fritter Bread

  • Total time: 2 Hours
  • Servings: 1 Loaf

Ingredients

Bread:

  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon, divided
  • 2/3 Cup White Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Butter, softened
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 2 Apples, peeled and chopped to 1/2-inch dice (Granny Smith is best)

Old-Fashioned Creme Glaze:

  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Milk or Cream

Directions

  • 1)

    Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • 2)

Spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan with non-stick spray and set aside.

  • 3)

In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon together. Set aside.

  • 4)

In another small bowl, combine the diced apples with the remaining 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and stir to mix. Set aside.

  • 5)

In a medium-sized bowl, beat white sugar and butter together using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.

  • 6)

Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, until blended in; add in vanilla extract and mix.

  • 7)

In another medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda and add into creamed butter mixture and stir until blended.

  • 8)

Mix milk into batter until smooth.

  • 9)

Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan; add half the apple mixture, then half the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.

  • 10)

Gently press apple mixture into batter.

  • 11)

Pour the remaining batter over apple layer and top with remaining apple mixture, then the remaining brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.

  • 12)

Lightly pat apples into batter; swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using knife or spoon.

  • 13)

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 15 minutes on a wire rack before removing from the pan.

  • 14)

While the bread cools, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar and milk. Mix until smooth, and then drizzle over the cooled bread.
